Thank you for pursuing your research against all odds to discover Gleevec. We read the article about you in Smithsonian May issue. What surprised me most is that you had no personal connection to CML. Thats why I think its a miracle that you discovered Gleevec. My husband was dx 2005. He's still on 400 mg/daily. But the side effects are ongoing, esp. the stomach issues, fatigue & swelling of eyes. Hoping you might continue to work on finding a cure. Your brilliance and tenacity are amazing.

I just finished reading, "The Triumph of Dr. Druker" in the current issue of Smithsonian magazine. I recommend it to all CML patients and their families who think they know something about Dr. Druker and the story of Gleevic. I was DXed in January 2002 and have been a student of Gleevic since then; I became active in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society first as a runner in its TNT program and more recently as a member of the board of the National Capital Area Chapter. I was surprised at how much I learned from the article. The story of Dr. Druker is well told, and the science of CML is clearly explained with very helpful illustrations.
Over the years I've benefitted from Dr. Druker's advice through his continuing research, and even directly when I was able to talk to him by phone during an LLS-sponsored CML seminar. Not a day goes by that I don't appreciate Dr. Druker's work -- having to take that orange pill every day helps. I've been CML-free for 9 years and expect to be so for quite a while. As Dr. Druker once told me, I'll probably die with it rather than from it.

I've been on Gleevec for nine years now and am happy to be doing well. I just attended my youngest daughter's graduation from the University of Michigan (grad school). Without your perseverance and belief in yourself (I just read about you in Smithsonian magazine), I could not have enjoyed this precious moment and many others like it in the last few years.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Dear Dr Druker, Thank you doesn't seem to say enough. Your many years of hard work and dedication have lead to so many CML patients like me being here today. My family and my young music students say thank you too. But especially, I say thank you for persisting for us. We are considered a minority in the big scheme of things but I don't feel unimportant. I'm glad I still have many years to live now.

There is not enough words to express my appreciation for your hardwork and vision which made us fight leukemia back with best target drug therapy. I have been diagonised back in 2003 and start with 400 mg gleevec right after. Thank you again and GOD BLESS you.

Dr. Druker,
Although we have never met, I wanted to express my gratitude for all your research and time spent on finding a cure for CML. As a newly diagnosed patient in blast crisis, at the young age of 44, I thought all hope was lost for a future with my husband and children...I have been on 800 mg of Gleevec per day since Dec 3/09 and am doing better than my Dr. here had ever expected...after 6 days on the meds I was at a .94 log reduction and now after just a couple of months I have had a 2.82 log reduction...although I know that a BMT is most likely in my future - I thank God everyday for Gleevec and what it has done for me in such a short time...
No words can express my appreciation for all that you have done and continue to do for the CML community...

Although it may sound strange, but I view my present situation with a mixture of bad luck immediately followed by good luck. As a friend put it when I was first diagnosed,"if you've got to have it, at least you got the right one".
There is only one reason for this anomaly. That reason is you Dr. Druker.
Thank you Dr. Druker, although like most of those who you have effected so significantly, we will probably never meet, but know that many of us know what it is you have done for each of us.
Thanks for your caring and efforts. Without both we would not have this time, (however long that may be) to enjoy our life & families. It has now been 6 yrs. and appears to be many more ahead.
It must be a strange feeling for you to know how many people you have saved. Just maybe, the gratitude we have, can make up in some small way for the years you devoted our life to it's development.

Thank you for all the tireless work you did to get gleevec to the market.
My son was diagnosed two years ago. He is now pcru and has a three month old healthy son of his own.
You have taken time to respond to my emails a couple of times and your words of advice have been very important.
Again from the bottom of my family's heart, thank you very much.

Brian,
You are saving peoples lives on a daily basis. You are not merely improving averages or survival rates but actual lives. These are people that live, love, cry and feel. You have saved so many lives including that of someone very near and dear to my heart and for that I am forever grateful. Who knows if anyone would have stumbled upon and seen G through completion years later, had it not been for your efforts.
We meet many people in life, some are friends and other are merely acquaintances. Some names immediately ring a bell while others are merely foggy recollections. I've never met you in person - although I'd like to, only if to shake your hand - but your name is one that I will never forget. It will always sound familiar and remind me of a very difficult time in my life... but one that I got through in no small part thanks to your perseverance and hard work.
Hats off Brian, my best to you and yours!

Dr. Druker, Thank you so much for giving my husband his life!! It has been almost 3 years since he was diagnosed at the age of 49. It was a terrible time when we found out, we have three kids and two were in college. I can't imagine how our lives would be today without your hard work and dedication to this drug. You are truly an incrediable individual and our family is forever grateful. Joey
