I wanted to give you an update on my situation. On January 2th, 2013 I requested a binding love spell be cast on my boyfriend. My daughter was diagnosed in May 2001, 10 days before Gleevec was approved by the FDA. She was only 4 years old at the time, when the average age of diagnosis was 62 years old.

We were told of our bleak options, and then a family member or friend mentioned they saw an article in Time magazine about a medication for CML. That one day in May when I found out about Gleevec, was the luckiest day of my life- I don't need to win the lottery and a bunch of money because I received the biggest and most important payout ever- ---a lifetime with my daughter.

She is a sophomore in high school now, and she just got a 4.0 this semester even taking two honor classes. She is so funny, sweet, and loving. I can't even imagine what life would be without her. Every milestone in her life I think of you, Dr. Druker.

I was on Gleevec after coming off INF and I can't tell you what a relief it was. It served me for 4 years and then it was decided that I was not responding and never responded to anything but the very minimum, but I am so thankful that Gleevec was here until I could get in other trials. I have been in trials for over 15 years and not PCRU, but alive. Your name has become synonymous with "cure", and we all expect it to come some day, many thanks to your not giving up on us.

To appreciate your contributions, one need only talk to the doctors who treat us CML patients. The two doctors who have treated me each teared up when discussing how not so long ago, at the beginning of their careers, they often lost their patients, whereas now they watch them live life fully -- and for years! I was diagnosed in spring of '05 and I don't plan to go anywhere for a long, long time. Thank you, Dr. Druker!

I have had the pleasure of actually being in your office two times as a patient and I tried to tell you how thankful I am that you saved my life but then as now, words fail me.

I started taking Gleevec on June 14, 2003. I have been undetectable for about eight years and remain so to this day.

I will never stop being grateful, to be reminded I only need to look at my three grand daughters that I would never have seen if not for Gleevec.

In terms of money I am certainly not a rich person, but in 2003 when I was dx no amount of money could have bought my life back anyway.

Thank you Dr. Druker for all the wonderful work you do for CML patients. I was just dx w/CML this past Christmas Eve/2011. I was admitted to the hosp. for a few days. My college kids and hubby held off Christmas until I got out.
One of my brothers brought the Smithsonian article to me. I can't tell you how educational it is.

My wife Fiona contracted CML over 5 years ago and has been able to live a full active life using Glivec. We cannot thank you enough for the work that you have done and for giving Fiona back her life

I teach chemistry here in the UK and your research is an inspiration - I hope very much that you are awarded the Nobel prize you so richly deserve. Your name should be remembered in history along with the other great medical and scientific pioneers.

Here in the UK we are battling with NICE - the authority which recommends drug availability in our health service - to allow haematologists to prescribe the follow-up drugs dasatinib and nilotinib in those cases where Glivec fails. They work on the same principles as Glivec and are highly successful for some patients. Your research has opened up avenues which will benefit hundreds of thousands of people in the years to come

Thank you, Dr. Druker. As I was having a bone marrow biopsy, I asked the doctor what the treatment would be if I had CML. He leaned toward me and said, "Just a little pill." I didn't believe him. After 8 and one half years on Gleevec, I am a believer. I have had minimal side effects after about 2 years. I didn't know how lucky I am until I read the article in the Smithsonian.

I've been on Gleevec for three plus years now ( MMR) and have found many ways to reduce the side effects. CML and Gleevec have changed my life, much for the better! And thanks also for being such a great doctor!

Thank you for pursuing your research against all odds to discover Gleevec. We read the article about you in Smithsonian May issue. What surprised me most is that you had no personal connection to CML. Thats why I think its a miracle that you discovered Gleevec. My husband was dx 2005. He's still on 400 mg/daily. But the side effects are ongoing, esp. the stomach issues, fatigue & swelling of eyes. Hoping you might continue to work on finding a cure. Your brilliance and tenacity are amazing.

I just finished reading, "The Triumph of Dr. Druker" in the current issue of Smithsonian magazine. I recommend it to all CML patients and their families who think they know something about Dr. Druker and the story of Gleevic. I was DXed in January 2002 and have been a student of Gleevic since then; I became active in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society first as a runner in its TNT program and more recently as a member of the board of the National Capital Area Chapter. I was surprised at how much I learned from the article. The story of Dr. Druker is well told, and the science of CML is clearly explained with very helpful illustrations.

Over the years I've benefitted from Dr. Druker's advice through his continuing research, and even directly when I was able to talk to him by phone during an LLS-sponsored CML seminar. Not a day goes by that I don't appreciate Dr. Druker's work -- having to take that orange pill every day helps. I've been CML-free for 9 years and expect to be so for quite a while. As Dr. Druker once told me, I'll probably die with it rather than from it.
