A message from the creators of the album...
The idea of creating an Appreciation Album for Dr. Druker (aka "The Project") originated in a small group from the Yahoo CML International Support Group that was assembled by Jennifer Gangloff (cmlsupport.com). This was early 2001 when the STI 571 trials were in progress, before approval of the drug that was to be named Gleevec. We thought there was no better gift we could give Dr. Druker than our personal thanks and our stories. For many CMLers who would never have the opportunity to meet Dr. Druker in person, this was a chance to "say thanks, shake his hand or give him a hug!"
The original Appreciation Album was presented to Dr. Druker in October 2001, and a copy was presented to his Mother on the occasion of her 80th birthday. Many participants also wanted to share their page with each other. This site, where many of us got our early information about Gleevec, seemed the appropriate place.
Near the end of The Appreciation Album are some pages of limericks that were written on the Yahoo CML International Support Group site in the days just before Gleevec was approved. We had heard the rumors and were giddy with anticipation. We have also included our THANKS to others who were instrumental in CML research and the development of Gleevec and some special friends of the CML community.
We hope you enjoy viewing The Appreciation Album, and we encourage you to add a message or comment to Dr. Druker and/or others who brought us Gleevec and made our CML-lives easier!
